“As professional auditors and advisors we plan our work with the objective of adding value” HW Controls & Assurance LLP is part of the Haines Watts Group, a national Top 20 professional services practice that has been in existence since the 1930s and has over 50 offices, 100 partners and 800 employees. We are proud of our heritage and this manifests itself in a client base that is long standing and a workforce that is committed to maintaining excellent client care through delivering the best possible service at all times. HW Controls and Assurance is the specialist governance, audit and IT advisory arm of Haines Watts that supports organisations across the public, private and the third sector develop and strengthen their governance arrangements. So, what is “governance”? We prefer the following quote by Sir Josiah Stamp, by way of an answer: “It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.” All our business streams, whether it is governance advisory, audit or IT, in some way, help management to address this challenge. Our team have “cut their teeth” primarily within the public sector where sound governance arrangements are an absolute necessity if there is to be clear demonstration of accountability to, most notably, the tax payer. Because of this background our expertise and knowledge of what constitutes good governance is embedded, instinctive, intuitive, tried and tested. We can and have exported this knowledge to both the third sector and private sector organisations. There is now an abundance of documentation, best practice guidance and checklists all providing organisations with advice on how to improve governance arrangements. However, whilst on one hand this is a good thing, part of good governance is for management to seek a periodic independent assessment of their arrangements…this is where we come in. As part of our initial needs assessment process all of or specialist audit offerings include a review of governance arrangements. This is critical in shaping our understanding of your business needs. The better we understand you (the people, culture and systems) the more pertinent our advice and output will be. Top of Page
